How to Repair Faucet

Maytag washer

Question:

If it’s a screech, it’s probably a brake going bad. You may notice  oil on the floor under it, it can’t be lubricated. If it’s a rumble, rubber kind of noise (hard to describe… you’ll hear it better listening up top with the lid opened) it’s the tub bearing. Can’t be lubricated either and it’s a bear to change. > I have opened up the front of our Maytag washer to replace the hose > clamps.  The machine is about 20 years old.   It works fine as far as we > can tell.  However, it gives out a loud screeching sound as the spinning > cycle comes to an end.  I am wondering if I should be lubricating any > parts while I have the front cover off. > Ted Fairhurst > Toronto.

Before you buy.

Response:

I have opened up the front of our Maytag washer to replace the hose clamps.  The machine is about 20 years old.   It works fine as far as we can tell.  However, it gives out a loud screeching sound as the spinning cycle comes to an end.  I am wondering if I should be lubricating any parts while I have the front cover off. my Maytag washing machine will fill on both the warm/cold and hot/warm settings but will not fill on the cold/cold setting.  Any ideas what’s wrong and/or how to repair it??  Thanks and God bless:^) —

first turn off the water faucets, unplug the wash. machine.  then check the cold water faucet to make sure its not blocked up, that might be why there is no action with just a cold setting???? when you have a cold setting the water inlet valve will only let the hot water in and this will also work on the warm water(you just getting the hot water part of it. machine does not know?? it just shut off when it gets to the low/med/or high water level.  if the faucet works ok, then take the hoses off and bring them outside and run water backways from the machine end to the faucet end to make sure there is no trash in them. check the screens on the hoses and the back of the machine where they are attahed to the machine(the hoses attach to the back of the machine to the Water inlet valve. it might be bad, cost about $15 at a appliance parts store. or you might just have a loose wire that is attached to it? but thats the way to check it out.

Response:

Footnote to previous message – I disconnected the water lines and reversed the wiring on the inlet module.  The valve for the cold operated perfectly telling me the problem must be either in the water temperature selection switch or somewhere in the main timer.  Again, any ideas folks???  Thanks in advance:^) —

why not then just put a meter on the temp. switch and see it its working? you know continuity for the cold water setting? if not then thats your problem…..

I don’t understand what you tested.  If you got hot water when you did this and set the dial for "cold" then the problem is probably in the cold water SUPPLY, not in the washer itself.  If you got cold water when you set the dial for "hot" but not the other way around then something in the cold valve area (likely either the screen or the valve proper) is not right. — Dan Hicks I shut my eyes in order to see.  –Paul Gauguin
