How to Fix Washer

GE Profile Dishwasher

Question:

The GE answer center – 800-626-2000 should be able to tell you what it means and how to fix it (unless it is a "call a tech light).  I’ve found them to be unusually helpful in the past. Paul

New stems and seats, still have drips!!!

Question:

Hello, I installed new stems and seats to my 25+ year old Eljer shower fixture, and it’s dripping after repair. I even put pipe dope on the seat threads to preclude water bypass in that location. Washers are brand new, and the 5/8" nut that is above the main 1" hex is snug. Any ideas how to fix this? Do the new washers need time to conform to the new seats? Can something be adjusted? After spending $30 for parts, this is VERY frustrating. Thank you for the help! Jon

On some occasions, I’ve had to use Loctite on the seat threads.   There are some grades of Loctite which are removeable later. Jim

Question:

Hi, I don’t exactly know how to explain my problem.  My dishwasher doesn’t wash anything on the top shelf at all.  They come out with specks of food on them, and I am using a powerful dishwashing detergent.  Would anyone know what this might be, and/or how to fix it? Thanks, Meg

Sounds like the jet spray arm thingie maybe clogged ,could be hard water or mineral desposits. Some are removable and you can soak them . "If women don’t find you handsome, they should at least find you handy"

Response:

Make sure you have a full tub of water in the bottom of the DW when it’s washing. If the screen on the fill valve gets clogged up with stuff, you won’t get enough water into the unit and it will cause the symptoms you describe. Flat Cheng Shin Tires

Question:

Thanks to one and all.  Dan, Chris, Lou, Saffron, Jim, Frederick, George and last but not least Lon.  Thanks for the good solutions.  And to those not mentioned, thanks for the jokes and explosive humor <G>. I put it up one blocks.  Painted the beads and rims with slime.  Poured two ounces of slime in each tire.  Used the rope trick and inflated each tire to 50 psi.  Positioned the tires at 1/3 turn increments a minute or so at each position.  About an hour later I checked the pressure — still 50.  Checked the recommended pressure = 30.  Reduced the pressure to 42 and stored the unit back in the shed. Thanks again. Ben – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >Question is how to fix the tires so this does not happen again? Something that has worked for me in the past has been to inflate the tires with no weight on them. Let the tire conform to the rim for a few minutes.  Let the air out and re-inflate with a good quality can of fix a flat.

You can always loop a piece of rope around the tread and tighten it. This will help force the bead out to the rim. — Jim Rusling Now retired full time Mustang, OK http://jrusling.home.mindspring.com

Pry the pal nuts off and buy replacement nuts at a hardware store.  Or see if you can get bearing retainers with setscrews to replace the nuts.   — Dan Hicks Truth can never be told so as to be understood, and not be believed. –Blake

96 Explorer – Wiper / Washer nozzle

Question:

Seems like a trivial problem, but, when driving on the interstate in the North East following salting and sanding its a pain. The problem is that when I toggle on the windshield washer, the driver side sprays fine. The passenger side = NOTHING!. I traced the rubber tubing under the hood and disconnected the "T" adapter. I had someone push the lever and fluid does come out of the side where the passenger nozzle usually connects. I got a straight pin and tried to clean out the nozzle. I put back the "T" adapter and STILL NOTHING. Any ideas how to fix it. Someone told me to get an air compresser and try blowing out the nozzle? — Robert F. Maroney Senior Tech Planner – Ntwk. Response:

Bob,  the compressed air gambit will work, but blow from the outside after removing the rubber tubing. If there is a bit of debris clogging the nozzle you want to blow it away and not either recycle it back into the system or wedge it more into the nozzle.
