Not to make light of your problem but I had a 89 Blazer that did the same thing. I just quit using the turn signal. No… really, This is how I cured the problem…. I sold it.

I didn’t want to seem to make fun, but the wiper used to drive me nuts, until the cruise problem started. Now I don’t even notice the wipers anymore. Its all a problem with cheap "wonder wands" (turn signal stalk just doesn’t give that device justice, its trule a Wonder Wand). Its practically inevitable in all cars that use them, but I think the problem is aggravated in S-class trucks cause they’re bouncy. I have learned to be creative when explaining the wipers. My favorite so to try and convince my passenger the car has an automatic rain detection system that is malfunctioning. A broken fancy feature doesn’t seem as bad as a broken basic feature. Since its really bad on dirt roads, I’ve also tried the "don’t want dust to settle on the windshield" explanation. The cruise control problem isn’t so bad. The brake still overrides it. There are even some benefits. You learn not to follow too closely (I have never rear-ended anyone in the truck, so it must be working), and it really cuts down on those naps throughout the day (I drive my S-10 Blazer for a living). The sleeping was dangerous, the spontaneous cruise control is exciting. I truly enjoyed it the day I lent the truck to my girlfriend, and I had to explain the problem so she would watch out for it. Her eyes just got bigger and bigger. Jeff

I don’t know how to fix it, but I have the same problem with an 89 S15. I always assumed the turn signal/wiper stalk was worn out due to age and when you use the turn signal the wiper contacts in the stalk made contact. Just a guess though.

I would suggest two things: 1. A good sense of humor 2. Be thankful that your cruise control doesn’t turn itself on spontaneously and attempt to resume 70 MPH. Mine does. All the time. Really put the wiper thing in perspective for me. Jeff

You’ll need to remove/replace all the rotted wood. Possibly take down the gutters. Be prepared to expect the worse. To do this right, you need to find out why the wood rotted and fix that.
> Hi, I hope I can explain this correctly. > Thanks in advance, > Lucy
The first step is to learn how to post to all text newsgroups. We really don’t care what the temperature is at your house. It takes up bandwith on the news servers for no good reason. Ed
Hi, I hope I can explain this correctly. I noticed the gutter on the rear of my house was loose and slightly lower than the rest of the gutter. With hammer in hand, I climbed a ladder to nail it back up but the wood behind the gutter and directly below/bottom of the roof is half rotted and moves when touched. ( no visible leaks from inside the house ) I thought no big deal, I’ll just replace the wood. I can’t get near the rotted wood from inside my attic as my roofs slants down to almost an inch of space where the roof/wood/gutter all meet. Any suggestions on how to fix this ? Thanks in advance, Lucy
<< Any suggestions on how to fix this ? >> This could be a mean one to correct. Wood rot has a tendency to travel so you might have to remove much of the gutter system to access the bad stuff for repair. Consider using scaffolding for the job and enlist some competent help to deal with it quickly so the scaffold rental doesn’t get out of hand. An alternative would be to get estimates from some recommended home repair firms, then decide your best course of action. Good luck. Joe
Hi! I moved the home, and I found my Sony E200 monitor that the displayed the color have the problem. The problem was as following: 1. When I put the full screen was red color, the left half size was OK, but the 1 of 3 rights side was display green color. 2. When I put the full screen was green color, the left half size was OK, but the 1 of 3 rights side was display blue color. Please show me how to fix. Thanks, Simon
It sounds like you need to degauss the picture tube. A TV tech could come out & do it. I’ve used my Weller soldering gun to degauss tubes. Turn on the soldering gun, move it next to the screen (while it’s on) and move it in a circular motion. You should see a rainbow of colors on the screen. Move the gun away from the screen untill it’s about 3 feet away and turn it off. If degaussing was the problem, it should be fine now. One other thing it could be is the yoke shifted during the move. (I doubt it) – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Hi! > I moved the home, and I found my Sony E200 monitor that the displayed the > color have the problem. > The problem was as following: > 1. many monitors have degauss build in, check the user setup menu. Frank – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > It sounds like you need to degauss the picture tube. I’m not familiar with that particular monitor, but it sounds like it needs to be degaussed. Any TV repairman ought to be able to help. > Thanks, > Simon

The monitor may need deguassing. However, since you state that you have moved, the CRT "picture tube" may have gotten damaged. With out getting into too much detail, if your monitor sustains a good impact, the shadow mask (inside the CRT) can get loose, or warped. This would cause irregular discolorations in the screen. If that’s the case, you would have to replace the CRT to fix the problem. Unfortunately, replacing the tube would cost more than the monitor is worth. GTB – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >Dear All, >After I moved the home, and I found that my Sony E200 monitor in some of >upper left and lower right cover had color offset. e.g I put full screen >green color, it area changed to red. >Please help me how to fix. >Thanks, >Simon

You are almost certainly correct, it is in need of degaussing, however all modern monitors have built in degaussing circuitry. If the degaussing circuit is functional it only works on powering the monitor up. Try several cycles of turning the unit on and off. You may need to unplug and re plug the unit to get it to completely degauss. Some units make a distinctive sound during the degauss cycle. If the circuit is not functional then manual degaussing can be used, but any time the monitor is moved or turned the problem can recur. The degaussing coils are not terribly expensive ($45-60) and you could get your own for about the cost of a service call. It is also possible that there is an extraneous magnetic field near the monitor such as speakers or refrigerator magnets. Try relocating the monitor to a different orientation or location in the room. If this helps then you will need to identify the source and eliminate it. Regards, John

Simon, Make sure you are not close to any magnetic influences, (especially big speaker magnets) they attract the beam to the wrong pixels. You need also to degauss your CRT. Some monitors do it automatically but I find some of the new digital monitors can be degaussed from the OSD menu. Many monitors need to be degaussed after a move just like TVs. Andy in Yakima

Check you monitor cable connections and see if any of the pins are bent, broken or loose. I once bent a pin and the entire screen was red. Scott

Simon, You may be describing a problem and I am thinking of another problem. You might have miss convergence. Did your degauss circuit work; in other words did you see the screen distort and hear a low hum at the same time. If not your degaussing circuit could be broke. Can you access the degauss function from the OSD or front panel? Need more information. Andy

(This is posted and e-mailed to Sarge, in case he has trouble reading the newsgroup post.) >I SEE THE DOCTOR TOMORROW ,WHAT CAN I ASK HIM FOR TO RELIEVE MY PAIN?
It really depends on what is causing your pain. Anti-inflammatories can be really good for pain related to inflammation…if you don’t have inflammation, they’re completely useless. If the Celebrex is helping, even a little bit, ask about better anti-inflammatories, or maybe just a higher dose. If your pain is related to muscle spasms, muscle relaxants like Soma or Zanaflax can help (though they tend to make people very sleepy.) Pain related to nerve damage sometimes responds well to anti-epilepsy drugs like Tegratol or Neurontin. There are a lot of different things that can cause pain in legs and backs. >I DON`T THINK HE WILL GIVE OUT ANY NARCOTICS.
Why not? Have you asked? Some doctors think of narcotics as a last resort, so they want to try every other possibility first. After proving that nothing else helps and the pain is still very bad, they might consider trying narcotics. Tell your doctor exactly how bad your pain is, and how it interferes with your life. If your doctor has an official policy that he never prescribes narcotics to anyone for any reason, find another doctor. Adrian Turtle Opportunity knocks once. Temptation leans on the doorbell.

I have a garbage disposer that has developed a small leak coming from the well where the electricalhook up is made. Any idea what caused this or better yet how to fix it. E mail welcomed TIA
Disposers are virtually unrepairable, and not worth your time. A leak would be very difficult to fix. Better to cut your losses and buy a new disposer. $75 would probably get you a decent one, and today’s bayonet mount makes installation easy. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> I have a garbage disposer that has developed a small leak coming from > the well where the electricalhook up is made. Well, I kinda hafta defend the people who say "take the bird to the vet" as a response all the time. I am fairly new to the bird thing. I’ve had birds for about a year, and don’t know a lot about their illnesses. I don’t personally possess the knowledge to fix my babies if they get sick. I take them to the vet. If someone is coming here to simply say, "Hey my bird has been acting strange and doing this, what could it be?," they probably don’t have the knowledge to treat the bird themselves, so they should take the bird to the vet to get a professional opinion and advice how to fix their baby. I don’t disagree that there are many cases where it could be a minor thing that could be treated at home, I’m just saying if you don’t know the illness and can’t treat it yourself, take the bird to a professional who can. Just my opinion- Jessica
> I respectfully disagree. As an example I’ve > seen people come here and say "My budgie’s > cere is turning a crusty brown." and people > have suggested to take the bird to the vet.
Because when you don’t know what is going on with your pet, seeing a vet is the best (but admittedly not only) way to find out. Especially versus asking strangers for a diagnosis over the internet based on ones poor descriptive abilities. > Yes, it *could* be mites, but it could also just > be that "Spike" is now a "Babygirl" and they > misjudged their budgie’s sex.
Fifty people could come up with fifty different could be explanations. What good is any ‘could be’ when what you want/need is an ‘it is" > IMO, the ‘nicer’ approach might be to suggest > what could be the problem, and also > recommend a trip to the vet.
Why would giving someone information that could be worthless or even harmful ‘nicer’ than a simple recommendation of a vet visit? > A lot of people (believe it, or not!) have some > common sense and can help themselves > through the situation.
and a whole lot more don’t have much common sense. And they are generally the ones coming to usenet instead of going to a vet. Yes, people with common sense also come to usenet, but they use it in conjuction with vet care not instead of vet care. > I know I view things a lot differently than > birders who’ve been at this a long time, but > it’s just an opinion and we all know what that > means! > Ravl
Exactly. **Mick**
As to the "take them to a vet" it normally is in response to the often, "my bird is sitting in the bottom of it’s cage all fluffed up". "He has does not eat or drink and acts real sick". "What should I do". Kind of posts. I respectfully disagree. As an example I’ve seen people come here and say "My budgie’s cere is turning a crusty brown." and people have suggested to take the bird to the vet. Yes, it *could* be mites, but it could also just be that "Spike" is now a "Babygirl" and they misjudged their budgie’s sex. IMO, the ‘nicer’ approach might be to suggest what could be the problem, and also recommend a trip to the vet. A lot of people (believe it, or not!) have some common sense and can help themselves through the situation. I know I view things a lot differently than birders who’ve been at this a long time, but it’s just an opinion and we all know what that means! Ravl LOL, well stick around here for a few years and then tell me that. I have seen a shit load of posts like the example I gave. 99% of them have a small bird that they just don’t want to spend any money on. Just like the "I would like a rescue bird", which 99% of the time translates to I want a Macaw or Cockatoo for free. They can’t afford to buy a bird, so they can’t afford it when it gets sick. I have seen to many to remember here of both of these. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->Delusions are often functional. We go back to the basic problem with on-line advise once again, if I can not see your bird, if I can not see what is going on how can I be so arrogant as to diagnose your bird or even say what it "might" be. The other side of this is our need to remember that even the trained professionals demand a hands on office visit prior to diagnosis. Some time back a very well meaning bird breeder gave me a bit of advise as to how to deal with slow crop, this person never saw the bird but, as a trained observer I was able to give her enough information that her diagnosis was correct. This took several hours of back and forth e-mailing. Ended up she wanted me to call her and she would walk a novice through cleaning out of the crop and …… I took the bird to the Vet. IMO, the ‘nicer’ approach might be to suggest what could be the problem, and also recommend a trip to the vet. A lot of people (believe it, or not!) have some common sense and can help themselves through the situation. Ravl I used to groom dogs, my customers was always asking my opinion as to what might be wrong with their dog etc. My standard reply was it might be this, but I’m not a vet. If it was some minor thing I would tell them, otherwise I suggested that they see a vet because it could be something very serious. Or say if it was my dog, I would take it to the vet. Some people seemed to need that nudge. Sharon

People who rely on strangers for bottom line advice are apt to get what they deserve. In addition to the advice to see a vet, it would be nice to see a bit more ‘help’ with various ideas as to what it might be. Like us humans, there are a variety of things we can catch, but only in very few cases are the symptoms going to be from something ‘new’. I would think some birders have seen it all and know what the symptoms look like, much like the dr. knows what you’ve got by symptoms.. If it sounds serious, by all means, take the bird to the vet. The biggest problem with this situation is that without seeing your crusty cere how can I ethically say, "it might be x or y or z". A lot of folks have common sense, and the ones who do, generally take care of the situation utilizing that common sense, others quite often get on the computer and ask, "what is wrong with my budgie". This discussion has helped me confront a really important issue. I have a budgie who is crippled and hunchbacked. I took her to the vet to get an infection cleared up, and the vet said she probably wouldn’t live very long. It’s been 3 years now, and she has some bad days when she isn’t too comfortable, but most the time she’s a happy little thing who flies around my bedroom. the vet and I both agreed that it wouldn’t do her much good to have the yearly checkups and the rest, because it would cause too much stress and might make her worse. So there might come a day when I have to euthanize her in the gentlest way possible, at home, with much love. Even though a vet would be easier on me, keeping my little budgie free of a panic and fear in her last moments will be more important. bel – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> I understand what you are saying. Sometimes I get a bit testy, after a week like the past week, well….. Tuesday we had the State Site visit at the office, did real well, but, stressful as heck. Wednesday we had that there great earth quake, did not effect me much but stressed out the birds a bit. (I think that might be part of why we lost four Pacific’s in the nest) Thursday the accountant came in to "start" the Corp taxes, lost money this year but that is good. Then Saturday and the Quaker mangling…… Sunday is a new week thank God. The little hen looks better, Bubba likes his new cage, I think. Willie is flirting with a pretty girl, yes he went into quarantine with her. The Mexican Red Heads, old One Eyed Jack and Mrs. Jack seem to be settling in. Chores are about half done and…. So I got to thinking again, I do that every now and then. Got to thinking about a couple three threads running this week, Training Budgies, Euthanasia, and the oldest thread on the group, "my bird is sick what do I do". Allot of times we all use pat answers for these same old questions, "go slow", "let the Vet put it down", "take it to the Vet". But I got to thinking, I do that every now and then. I don’t go slow when training Budgies, I reach into the cage-pick up the bird-bring it close to my chest and gently hold it calmly talking to it until it calms down. I work on finger training by placing the bird perched on my thumb with the rest of my hand over the back of it’s body gently cupping the bird while we do step ups from one hand to the other. At the bird’s comfort level I will work with that bird until it is time to go back to the cage and pick up the next one. Works for me. But it might not work for you, so …. As far as putting a bird down,,,,, well I have yet to pay a Vet to do so, I refuse to go into detail as I don’t need the flames. But I will say this, I have had to put down a few dogs in my days on this planet, I give them treats, loving and then let them go as fast and painless as possible in the home the loved and with the people they cared for! My little Quaker hen went to see the vet simply because I was not sure if her leg was broken, if it had been she would have needed much more than what she got, in addition she is banded and was concerned that we might have to remove the band and I can not do that myself. I can do everything else that could be done for her, I cleaned her up, did a visual and physical check out, got her warm and safe, and as per the Vet, "we will just have to watch and see how she does". But you know, I did not come into this forum asking, "golly gee what should I do?" I shared some frustration with the realities of breeding birds and the mishaps the will occur, period. Damn burned my lunch, later days. Bob W — Go look at the greatest birds on this planet, A few new things! http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumList?u=920736&Auth=false I think we all understand where your coming from. I do some un conventional things training our birds. I don’t claim to be an expert but I know what works for me. When we got our BCC he was bonded with a Quaker and semi wild. After a couple days I gave up with the taming methods I had read about. I put on a pair of leather motorcycle gloves and started reaching into his cage and making him step up. Then the wife did. Very soon he learned biting did nothing and he had no reason to fear us. I really don’t care if this is not an accepted method, it worked. Now years later he will growl and nip if testy but he understands "NO BITE" and heeds it. The only one he has ever drawn blood from in recent years was a sister in law who was warned not to offer him a hand while we were not in the room. As for euthanasia, I too do my own with our pets. If it has to be done I would rather do it my self. I have offered suggestions to people who asked how and always said if you don’t feel comfortable doing it take the pet to a vet. As to the "take them to a vet" it normally is in response to the often, "my bird is sitting in the bottom of it’s cage all fluffed up". "He has does not eat or drink and acts real sick". "What should I do". Kind of posts. What the hell do these morons expect someone on a news group to tell them to do? Their normal response is always the same. They get mad that no one offered a magical cure for free. Many whine about "they can’t afford a vet". Well them they can’t afford a pet. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->Delusions are often functional. Hey Wheeler, Love your ramblings and style of business. I always get a kick out of the pat "Take it to the vet" response too. Makes me wonder if there’s a vet publicity firm operating here. ;) As to training, sounds like you and I are there too. You can only let the little guys intimidate you for so long. I’m really making progress with my two because I’m persistent with them. Even though I’ve had to be physical (hold him) with Rio to stop his attacks, he still will step up for me and will sit on me. I’m proud of my progress with them so far. I’ve been wanting to ask you….how does raising budgies compare to other birds? I’m just enthralled with them (the hubs is really coming around too!) and wondered if they are special to people who breed lots of birds. Or are they easy money because of their inexpensive cost? Ravl
I understand what you are saying. The thing about vets is that you have many years of bird experience. It is a very different thing from the average person who comes on here with a question about a sick or injured bird and wanting the group to diagnose the problem. You shouldn’t take to heart the barbs of certain people who do a knee-jerk "take it to the vet" anytime this subject is mentioned. I have 60 small birds at this point. I apply my experience to any situation where a bird appears to need extra care. I know when a trip to the vet is called for and when I can handle things on my own. I’m sure its the same for you and most people who have owned multiple birds for a long time. As for euthanasia, this is a hot button subject that I usually steer clear of. I have seen it discussed openly on a budgie breeders list and I know the humane methods they use. Personally, I’d rather not do this myself and can luckily afford the vet. Still, if you discuss these in an open forum, you usually will see many flames come your way. For example, you can kill a small bird in an instant by bashing it into a wall headfirst, but there are those that call this cruel. I’m sure it’s many, many times less stressful than a trip to the vet for a needle in the breast, but…..I can see some people cringing right now! Janet Levy
Wheeler, I don’t think many people thought much of what you said. You were upset and needed to vent and I think everyone understood your feelings. I’m sorry you lost the Parrotlets, was that mommy and daddy Parrotlet also? I also believe in getting aquainted with my birds right away, I understand lots of people don’t. But any bird I have ever had, has been great birds and that is how I do it. As far as euthanasia goes, I think we all do what we can. You have the guts to do the most humane thing and that is to do it quickly when needed. Some of us are unable to do it, it doesn’t make either person wrong. I hope this week is a better one for you. That was a lot to deal with in a week. Sharon

Talk about timing, there was a piece on HGTV last tonite about installing an expansion tank on "Fix It". — CL
Sounds like you have some sort of check valve in the water inlet to the house. Perhaps the water meter itself. The cold water goes in to the hot water tank, and as it heats, it expands. This is the increased pressure. I suspect that an expansion tank (Extrol is the the brand that comes to mind) would do wonders for you. — This Message is guaranteed environmentally friendly Manufactured with 10% post consumer HTML Meets all EPA regulations for clean air Using only naturally occuring fibers Use this Message with confidence!!

Test the water temp with a meat or other thermometer, it’s possible the thermostat is not shutting off the heater or an element when it should. Should is somewhere around 120 to 140 degrees. Gary Quality Water

Thanks for the reply Gary. I went back and found the thread you mentioned, and it describes the problem I have pretty well. Once I noticed the problem, i figured out pretty fast that the water heater was causing the increased pressure. One thing that I just thought of is, could the thermocouple inside the water heater be failing. In that, if the thermocouple is not seeing the temperature increase or is slow to respond, the water heater could be "overdoing" its job and making a higher water temperature, which in tern causes the overall water pressure to be higher. I say this because I never noticed the problem before until now. In any case, based on the other thread, and all of the replies to it and to this thread, I have a few things I can look into. Dave

You need an expansion tank to allow for the temperature rise expansion caused pressure increase. If you’re on ‘city’ water you possibly have/need a pressure reducer valve after the water meter also. having one or installing one will make your increased pressure problem worse without an expansion tank. And if your T/P relief valve does not blow off the pressure increase you break the heater and or the plumbing. City water pressure usually increases over night. There is another current thread concerning this same problem. It’s titled; Water Pressure too high, reducing valve didn’t help? Gary Quality Water
I have run into an interesting situation that I am not exactly sure of how to fix or handle. It seems that when I use hot water in my home for an extended period of time,(like taking a hot shower or bath) then turn off the the hot water, about 5 to 10 minutes later i have a tremendous increase in household water pressure on both hot and cold water. Its very noticeable after my wife takes a long bath. About 10 minutes later if you go to the sink to do dishes or wash your hands, the water pressure is VERY high, and in about 5 to 10 seconds of running the water, it reduces itself to "normal" pressure. Is this something that is failing in the water heater? It seems as if the water heater is pressurizing the household water supply as it heats up the cold water in the tank. I am concerned that the increased pressure might rupture something in the water heater, or break a water line. I normally have very good water pressure to begin with. I have lived in this house for 6 years now, and this is the first time that I have seen this happen. It seems to have started suddenly. Any ideas? Thanks Dave
